The renovation was much more disruptive than we expected. We knew from the website it was in its final phase, but it felt like the work was in full swing. The main lobby wasn’t finished, so guests had to use a side entrance. Check-in was on the second floor beside a loud jackhammer, with only a curtain between it and the desk, making it hard to hear staff. We were placed on the third floor right above the noise. We called to ask about changing rooms and were told they’d look into it and get back to us, but after 30 minutes without an answer, we left for dinner. The jackhammer kept going until after 5 PM Friday and started again around 8:30 Saturday morning. We’d asked for a late checkout, but gave that up because of the noise, and it was misty at the beach anyway. Only one of the two elevators was running, and it was slow and sometimes full, so we took the stairs a few times. The restaurant bar, gym, and spa weren’t open yet, though coffee was available downstairs and not in the rooms. The staff were kind and greeted us with smiles, from the front desk and valet to the beach and maintenance teams. The location was also a plus, with an ocean view from the bed, beach access, and shops and restaurants nearby. This was our once-a-year weekend away without the kids, and our last before the next baby. At this price, which wasn’t much lower than the value on offer during construction, we probably would’ve chosen somewhere else if we’d understood how extensive the work would be. Staff said the new renovation should be complete in July.

The room had already been renovated and was very nice, with a magnificent view. The service was amazing too. George, Adam, Eley(mgr), and Cole were great as valet and bell staff, and Shannon at the front desk was very kind. We’ll return after late July or in October, when everything should be finished. The reason for the three stars was the construction noise. We were on the seventh floor for our 32nd wedding anniversary and hoped to sleep in after a long week, but jackhammers started at 8:30 Saturday morning. Even though the work was on the first floor, we could still hear it. You’d think they might wait until 10 on a Saturday. We knew the restaurants and bars were closed when booking, so that wasn’t a surprise, but $500 for one night without those facilities, plus an unscheduled early wake-up from the jackhammer, felt steep. Maybe the rate should have been around $300.

The rooms have been remodeled recently and look very nice. There are new lounge chairs and umbrellas by the pool, plus new beach chairs and umbrellas on the sand. Dune House used to be One Ocean, where we got engaged, so it means a lot to us. It sits right on the beach behind protected dunes with sea oats. They’re still renovating the rest of the hotel, restaurant, and bar, and we can’t wait to see the finished work.

We live just 10 minutes away, and this was the best little holiday-weekend getaway. It’s a fantastic local vacation spot, and I highly recommend it. Jadon, Eli, and Matias are the best at valet. Go meet them!
