Days Inn by Wyndham Augusta

I woke up with severe back pain after sleeping in a huge dip in the mattress, plus a headache and stuffy nose. The room smelled like dirty feet, and I suspect there's an active mold or mildew problem, not just an unmaintained AC unit. I was exhausted when I checked in, but I regret choosing this place over one of the other ten or so hotels within a mile or two. Room 122 had a strange odor when I entered. The AC was running, so I thought that might be it and planned to shower and sleep. The shower had mold and mildew stains, a broken shelf was under the sink, and the bathroom vent was filthy and almost falling out of the ceiling. There were odd stains shaped almost like hands above and beside the toilet. The tub and shower hardware were badly installed and nearly coming loose. The main room hadn't been dusted properly. The remote was missing its battery cover, though the TV didn't work anyway. One duvet had a stain, so I slept in the other bed. I checked on cancelling and getting a refund, but it seems the booking is nonrefundable. I reserved it Tuesday, October 14, the night before, while heading to the hotel. Apparently, to get a full refund I'd have needed to cancel before Sunday, October 12, two whole days before booking. I'd planned to stay until Saturday, but I'm afraid I'd probably die here. For this kind of hotel, I'm choosing kid friendly because nobody would notice if children broke something, spilled something, or painted the walls with lunch.

We checked in and left right away. There was dried vomit on the rugs, mildew in the shower, and bodily fluids smeared on the wall beside the bed. The shower mildew was the least of it. I don't know why Wyndham is associated with this hotel. One star is generous. No thanks.

The room was clean, and the front desk staff were very friendly. Check-in and checkout were easy. I asked for a cup of coffee after the kitchen had closed, and they still got one for me. I was amazed. Worth every penny, and I'd strongly recommend it.

We drove in from Boston and had booked three nights starting Tuesday, with a king bed. After a four-hour drive, we arrived around 11:30 PM. The front desk man said the room I'd booked wasn't available. He offered another room, but when I asked to see it, he said something was wrong with it. I checked and found the door lock was broken, so I told him I wouldn't stay and wanted to cancel. He said he'd cancelled it, but I was still charged for two days even though I never stayed. This was the worst hotel, and I'll never book there again. I'd strongly suggest the Best Western by the Civic Center instead.
