Austin Folk House Bed and Breakfast

We loved staying here and would choose this place or their other one on our next trip to Austin. The property is a converted large house with comfortable rooms, private attached bathrooms, and vintage and antique furniture. The staff were lovely, especially the chef, who made healthy breakfasts each morning. We also enjoyed the cookies and drinks available during the day. The manager isn’t on site, which could be an issue, but she can be reached by phone at any hour. There’s generally a staff member around to help, too. Even with downtown a longer walk away, it’s still close enough to get there without much trouble, and nights tend to stay quiet despite being near the Drag and UT campus. That’s part of why this is my favorite place to stay in Austin. The place feels cosy, with a mix of antique and folk art touches, and there’s always good food plus complimentary snacks and drinks.

Free parking is a plus, but I wouldn’t pay more than $80 a night here. The rooms feel overpriced and the beds aren’t comfortable. Breakfast was underwhelming: the baked goods were only okay, with some burnt and others too salty. My room wasn’t ready at the 3 o’clock check-in, so I waited about 30 minutes. If you stay anyway, ask for a second-floor room for more privacy and less kitchen noise.

Earplugs are provided, and they suggested using an electric fan or a noise-cancelling radio, but at this price that felt like too much to ask. I was in room #7 and barely slept either night. Traffic went on through the night, and college kids were outside until 3 AM. I’m surprised nobody else has mentioned how noisy it is.
