Econo Lodge Austin North near The Domain

The room itself was fine, but the mattress was worn out and uncomfortable, the toilet seat was loose, and the wall-hole patching was poorly done. The place feels old and uncared for. The exterior needs freshening and landscaping, and the sunroom glass panels need repair or replacement. The location is terrible. They keep the front door locked during business hours because homeless people walk around nearby. There's a major bus depot across the street with long-term parking, which I guess draws people to the area. Across the interstate, there's a nice Chili's and other modern shopping. I booked online through my company's account without reading reviews, but wouldn't have stayed if I had. Things seem bad enough that a police car was parked there most of the night and part of the morning. Breakfast was sparse and unwelcoming. There were two coffee choices, but one was broken, and no milk, juice, bananas, oranges, or muffins. Just one sad little wrapped Danish. The sausage patties were tasty, and they also had a waffle iron with good batter and syrup. Still, I wouldn't recommend staying here.

I've stayed here a couple of times, including for just one night, and the rooms have been fine. It's a simple place, which suits me since I don't need to spend much on somewhere just to sleep. The rooms were clean and the a/c worked great. That's all I needed.

The breakfast was barely edible: stale bread, weak coffee, and food that looked like it had been sitting out for days. The whole property felt sketchy, from the business practices to the general atmosphere. I also had to pay an unusually high deposit for a place this run-down. My room smelled strongly of cigarettes despite being marked non-smoking, and I found rat droppings in the corners. At check-in, Tapan Patel was rude and came across as very unprofessional, with poor communication. It was a nightmare from beginning to end. I wish I could give zero stars. No pros at all, just a waste of time and money. Stay somewhere else.

There are cleaner, friendlier, cheaper places to stay, so look around before choosing this one. The front desk is rude and seems to look for a reason to kick you out. It feels like you have no rights as a customer and are left at the mercy of the staff. This place is a sham.
