Gateway Guesthouse

We had a fantastic stay and will definitely return. The breakfasts were delicious, the place itself was beautiful and relaxing, and the hosts were so sweet. It’s an amazing B&B right in the heart of Austin, just like all the reviews say.

The atmosphere was quiet and low-key, the food and service were on point, and we loved the hot tub. It’s about 15 minutes from Congress St, so be ready for a walk. This was our first B&B stay as a couple, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The hosts are two of the loveliest, most down-to-earth people you could ask for. Leo and the poodle, whose name I’m sorry I can’t remember, were the sweetest doggie pals, too. Breakfast was out of this world. We’d highly recommend checking it out!

The little Red Bungalow house makes a perfect home base for me when I’m in Austin on business, and we’ll definitely be back. We came for a family reunion, with friends joining us for a few days, and there are so many great places within walking distance. The owners have thought of everything and gone overboard with all the thoughtful extras. We love this place!

Breakfast was good and the rooms were comfortable, but we got the feeling they couldn’t wait for us to leave. The owners seemed irritable and on edge at times. Some moments they were gracious, other times they seemed annoyed that we were on the property. They’re selling the place, so maybe it’s short-timers syndrome? One example: checkout was at 11, and after we left our room we asked if we could sit by the pool to finish our coffee. They said they could hold our luggage, but we had to leave. There were a few other times we asked for help and they seemed bothered. We spent $1,000 for the weekend and had hoped for a more hospitable stay.
