Homewood Suites by Hilton Austin Downtown

Good service and great amenities made Homewood Suites a pretty awesome place to stay. The heated pool is one of the few in Austin during winter, so check it out if you get the chance. I feel like they set the bar for hotel service around town. It’s reasonably priced and a go-to in the Domain for business trips, family visits, or leisure. I definitely recommend it.

The room and hotel were nice overall, and the front desk staff were very nice when they were actually at the desk. With the hotel right next to I-35, the earplugs on the nightstand were a thoughtful touch. Being near downtown also made for a quick walk. The shower floor looked dirty from active use. Even with a thorough clean, it seems the surface can hold brown or black discoloration. A regular deep-clean schedule with bleach or another strong cleaning product could help restore the white look and give guests more confidence that it’s clean. At 12:30 a.m., the smoke detector started beeping for a low battery. I know things happen, but a maintenance routine to change batteries around the time changes could prevent that while a room is occupied. The elevators were the biggest frustration: sometimes it took 5-7 minutes for one to arrive, and it sounded like not all four were working, though I’m not sure. Housekeeping and maintenance staff also often filled an entire elevator with carts. With four elevators, one could be reserved for employees so that guests aren’t affected.

Sami gave us such a friendly, helpful, warm welcome at reception and shared practical tips for our stay. We were also invited right away to the hotel’s Wednesday reception with snacks and drinks. Our top-floor room was beautiful, the simple hotel breakfast was good, and parking was easy to access. The location worked perfectly for downtown, restaurants, and nightlife. What a nice hotel!

For a longer visit, I found this Homewood Suites in downtown Texas a comfortable home base. The separate living area in the room worked well, and having an on-site washer and dryer was convenient. Staff were friendly and accommodating. There’s a daily breakfast, plus a Wednesday social night with snacks, and a comfortable common lounge where you can relax outside your room. The hotel is right downtown, directly across from a great barbecue spot, which made meals easy. The pool wasn’t always clean, and there was no shade. In sunny weather it got very hot, especially on the concrete, so swim shoes are a good idea. Even with that drawback, it’s a solid, convenient downtown option I’d recommend.
