Hyatt Place Austin/Arboretum

The staff really stood out. Everyone I dealt with over our three-night stay before a wedding was kind, thoughtful, and more than willing to help. Our room was clean, easy to move around in, and nicely equipped, and breakfast was quite respectable. Absolutely recommend.

The unexpected charge for the second night caused a headache with my finances, which was the one frustrating part of the stay. I had also asked for a microwave, and it wasn’t in the room when I arrived, though that wasn’t a big deal. Otherwise, I had a wonderful business stay at the Hyatt Austin Arboretum. The team were friendly, attentive, and professional, and check-in and checkout were the easiest I’ve ever had. My room was comfortable and clean, the breakfast was better than I expected, and the open, welcoming bar and restaurant were a plus. I also liked unwinding by the calm pool, though I wish it opened earlier. I’d highly recommend the property for its comfortable rooms, relaxed setting, and service.

I came back three months later and Jade was still there. The hotel was still great, and the lobby work was finished. It looks really good now, and I’ll stay here whenever I’m in this part of Austin. Even while construction was going on, this was the best hotel stay I’ve had in Austin. I’m on the road for work about once a quarter and usually stay at this level, so I’ve tried around six north Austin properties over the last few years. A colleague suggested Hyatt after I’d spent a while going back to a convenient Residence Inn, and I’m glad I gave it a shot. Jade at the desk was the friendliest person to check me in in years. I travel a lot and feel like service in these jobs has slipped, so she really stood out. I hope the people who employ her recognize what a gem she is. She jokingly called my room the “Penthouse suite,” which made me laugh. It was spotless, too. Usually I find some little thing that grosses me out, but not here. Breakfast in the temporary dining room was average, but the manager and staff kept a close eye on things, responded quickly, and cleared plates as guests left. They were friendlier and more attentive than I’d expect at this kind of hotel. The tea selection was a nice surprise, around six kinds, especially for someone like me who prefers green or herbal tea to coffee. The awkward rear entrance, paint smell in the stairwell, and lobby construction were minor irritations. What mattered most to me was the staff, the clean room, and the comfortable feel of the place, and they got those right. The room was about as spotless as a three-star hotel room could be. Bravo, Hyatt. You’ve won a customer, and I hope your other properties are this good.

I’m disgusted by how little care or attention there was after someone got into my locked room and took my AirPods Pros. I feel sick wondering what else might be missing that I haven’t checked yet. They gave me a $4 beer, but that doesn’t make up for losing the Christmas present my fiancée gave me. I thought strangers couldn’t get in and go through my things. There was no management available at night to take responsibility. Take your belongings with you, or they could end up in south Austin, and the police won’t help get them back. A pitiful experience, 0/10.
