Residence Inn Cleveland Avon at The Emerald Event Center

I only stayed because the location suited me, and the bed and working outlets were enough for a short visit where I just needed sleep and a place to charge my phone. Still, I'd think twice before booking again. My room smelled damp, sweaty, and unclean. The bathroom had signs of persistent mildew, and obvious water stains on the wallpaper. It seemed like the room and bathroom were always damp, perhaps because of a ventilation problem. As an anecdote, I've been a Marriott Titanium member for years and spend over $10k a year with Marriott, yet this was the room I got. It felt like a strange way to thank me for my loyalty. 😂

The room was spacious and comfortable, and the woman who checked me in was welcoming and polite. Brittany at the bar was great too. But the breakfast area needed cleaning, and the coffee station was unappetizing. At 5 AM on my first morning, the night shift front desk employee was asleep in the lobby. When I mentioned the dirty creamers the next morning, the kitchen employee said the night shift at the front desk was supposed to clean them, then wiped the creamer mouth with a rag. 🤢

After staying here for a decade, I'll be looking elsewhere. Cleveland has terrible hotel options unless you stay downtown, but this place used to be a great spot and now the staff are apathetic at best. The shower had no conditioner or body wash, and its head had only four working openings, which wasn't enough water. With the half open shower design, I stood there shivering. The internet TV logged me out after 30-40 minutes, and I had to sign back in three times that night. The pillows and beds need an upgrade.

We've stayed here before, and the complimentary breakfast was still good. The place was relatively clean, but several things were out of order: the whirlpool, which I really needed for my bad back, and the automatic pancake machine. The sign said "snap oops," apparently meaning it wasn't working. My grandson was disappointed. My wife told the staff about the pancake machine and whirlpool, but they didn't offer any adjustment. At $200+++ a night for a standard room, I think there should have been one. I might have insisted if I hadn't been wrangling luggage and my grandson. Staff mostly stayed in the back room on their phones.
