Econo Lodge On Historic Route 66

The receptionist was okay, but the room itself was in poor shape. The room and bathtub were dirty, the bed was uncomfortable, and the pillows were so thin they felt like sheets of paper.

For $50, it was cheap and bearable for one night while passing through, and the white bed sheets looked clean. Still, the shower tub was filthy, the floor was sandy, and the curtains above the air conditioner were so dirty they need replacing. There was also strange green stuff coming from the faucet through a large crack, as you can see in the pictures. It is what it is at that price, but they need to do basic cleaning and maintenance.

I’ve stayed at this location many times and it’s usually a good value, but this visit went badly. We upgraded to the “premium” room after being told the only downstairs room available had a broken TV. Big mistake: the room was filthy and its TV didn’t work either. We could hear every word from the people next door. They never quieted down, so I tried calling the front desk, but the number was out of service. I went to the office in person, and they moved us to the room with no TV. I’d originally asked for a ground-floor room.

The manager was welcoming, friendly, and attentive, and I thought the stay was a great value. My room was clean, the mattress was good, and I slept well. The layout keeps street noise down, and it was quiet by 9 pm. The ice machine wasn’t working, but there was ice in the lobby. The pool was closed, which didn’t matter to me. I come through Barstow every so often and will stay here again.
