On our way to South Carolina, we stopped at Baymont in Smithfield, NC, with our children. From the parking lot onward, the place looked dirty. The pool was closed, and an employee said it hadn't been open for at least “4 years,” though Agoda listed a pool. We were told the “locals” were usually kept in the back, but the front was sold out, so we got a back room where the door didn't lock. On the way there, we saw drunk “locals,” vomit, and what looked like urine and feces everywhere. We asked for our money back and left because we couldn't stay there with our kids. I'm glad we did. At 1:00 am, an employee called asking whether we were sleeping in the room. We said no, we'd left, and they said some people were in there, couldn't get in, and they'd have to call the police. Then came a second call at that hour. We'd left because we felt neither clean nor safe, especially as a family. We booked through a third party, so canceling and getting a refund took a long time. The whole thing was a nightmare and a terrible start to our family vacation. I'm still upset about the stress and having to fight for my money back. Please save yourself the trouble and stay elsewhere.

My family and I left early because we were afraid for our safety, even though we'd paid online for five days. We went to TRU by HILTON HOTEL instead and stayed there for two weeks. The rooms were clean, the manager seemed to care about residents' safety, and fresh hot breakfast was served each day. Housekeepers brought clean towels and toilet paper and politely asked what we needed. The police were never called there. I'd give TRU by HILTON HOTEL a 20 rating, one of the best places to stay. I rate the BAYMONT by WYNDHAM/ SMITHFIELD location zero. At Baymont, the manager is KELLY, and she didn't seem to care about residents' safety. My family and other people I spoke with felt she was money hungry. They asked for a $100 deposit that was supposed to be refundable, but we got back only $50. Kelly, in my view, finds a reason not to return the full deposit, even when the room is left clean. Our room was cleaner when we left than it had been when we arrived, so it was the principle of keeping that $50 that bothered us. The place was disgusting and unsafe. Police raided the whole hotel in a drug bust and residents were told to leave their rooms. I advise people, especially families with small children or elderly relatives, to run and choose another hotel. I provided pictures and videos as proof. Bugs were in the bathroom, the water didn't run properly, the microwave had something standing in it and didn't work properly, and the refrigerator was nasty and didn't keep food cold. Police kept coming because of fights or drugs being sold. People were selling drugs in ROOM 100, which now has a board over the window. Rooms smelled, towels were stained and already dirty, the sheets and blankets had stains, and the floor was so filthy that my socks turned black as soon as I walked on it. People played loud music and hollered all night from the second floor balcony, while office workers ignored complaints. Overnight staff slept in the office, though the hotel is supposed to be staffed 24 hours a day. Workers said they were about to quit because they were paid $9.00 hourly and hated working for Kelly. There's no exercise room. The pool is closed and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in five years. The food wasn't fresh or hot; it sat out cold all day. Money wasn't the reason we left early.

I've been here for a little while without any problems. The rooms are clean, everything works, and I feel safe. It's a bit pricey, though still cheaper than some nearby places. The front desk ladies are helpful, and breakfast is pretty decent.

Everything was comfortable, though the toilet flushed slowly. The rooms were good, and I'd stay here again.

The staff are great overall, but one woman is mean and hateful, with a bad attitude and no reason to be so rude. She's noisy and does too much for someone making only $11-12 an hour. I don't know why she's still there. I know they've had a lot of complaints.
