Comfort Suites Port Allen - Baton Rouge

The rooms look worn, and repairs seem to be done without much attention to appearance or quality. In our first room we found two roaches on the wall and desk. The maintenance man tried to say they weren't roaches, though the desk clerk agreed with us. They moved us to a room without bugs. Housekeeping was another problem: someone knocked at 8 on Saturday morning asking for our used towels, then came back around 11 to ask if we wanted the room cleaned. I said yes since we were heading out for lunch. When we returned around 8:30 that night, the room hadn't been touched and the towels we'd handed over hadn't been replaced, so I had to find someone to bring us towels for a shower. We paid for two nights and couldn't even sleep in, then got no room service. It felt like a money grab with the bare minimum being done. I was embarrassed to have picked it for a stay with my best friend. For what we paid, I wouldn't return, and I'd expect at least a partial refund, though I doubt that will happen.

The carpet felt sticky and gross, and the air conditioner smelled odd even though it worked. The whole place is run down and smelly, and badly needs an update and a thorough cleaning. I'm sorry I stopped for the night. I won't stay there again.

The hotel's handy for stores, and the price was under $100 a night, so I wasn't expecting five-star service. Still, there were some real problems during our stay at Comfort Suites Port Allen - Baton Rouge from 07/19 to 07/21 in a King Bed Suite. The odor was awful throughout the building. We bought air freshener right after checking in, and another guest was grateful to borrow it. The elevator smelled bad too and seemed like it might break down. Our room hadn't been cleaned well, and I have several photos of dirt and visible damage. The TV didn't work either. They offered to move us, but said there were no more king suites, even though the Choice Hotels app showed otherwise. Communication with the front desk gentleman was frustrating because his accent was very thick and his English limited. My husband and I are young and usually choose budget places that will rent to us, so we're used to some imperfections. Our previous Choice Hotel stay was great, but this one fell short. If you go, bring disinfecting wipes, spray, and air freshener.

The rates are good, the bed is decent, breakfast is better than at most places, and it was quiet. They had a little bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit, and daily room service too, which I don't see at other hotels. The place is worn and tired, sure. If you want somewhere new, spend $200 a night. I'd put my crew here, though probably not my wife. There's an early checkout charge, so I won't stay again since our schedule changes most weeks.
