The woman at the desk was very nice, and the other two hotels in Bedford looked worse, so this is still the best option there. But the room and bathroom were dirty, and cigarette smell was strong almost everywhere. I saw a roach on the ceiling, and the tile floor was odd for a hotel room. It was too dirty to feel comfortable.

For the price, it’s fine if you’re not expecting a lot of extras. One thing to plan for: there’s no elevator, so if you have a lot of luggage, book a ground-floor room.

The Super 8 Bedford staff were polite and very nice, and the desk service was great. The rooms seem as clean as the old materials allow. But the bed cover looks like it’s been there for years, the pictures behind the headboards are tired, and the carpet needs replacing. The new refrigerator is nice, though it needs to be secured because opening its door makes it slide toward the beds. The microwave handle is broken too. A bigger problem was the unpleasant odor throughout the hotel from people smoking marijuana in smoking rooms. In VA, smoking in public places isn’t allowed, and the law says people can’t consume or offer marijuana in a public place. A first offense can bring a civil penalty of up to $25; a second can mean a $25 penalty and treatment or education if the court orders it; third and later offenses are Class 4 misdemeanors. Please enforce the law.

If the Bedford Chamber Area Chamber of Commerce wants to bring more tourism to this welcoming community, it should get new hotels. The Super 8 isn’t super at all, and if it’s the only option next year, I won’t return. I’ll plan further ahead, thanks. Places around there include D-Day museum, Gross Farm Apple Festival, AA Grill, 3d base ice cream parlor, Peaks of Otter, Woodruff Pie shop, and Blue Ridge Parkway.

The highway location is the only good thing I can say about this dump. The room was nasty, with boogers on the wall and no toilet paper. The phone wasn’t even connected, though I wouldn’t have used it anyway because it was nasty too.
