Hampton Inn & Suites Philadelphia/Bensalem

We felt racially profiled from the moment we arrived, and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to African American guests based on what happened to us. Amy at the front desk called her comments “jokes,” but they were racial slurs, including “Don’t be swinging off the curtains” and “Don’t burn down the room.” We were uncomfortable right away. We were in the room for about an hour, just long enough to shower, get dressed, and head out. When we came back, Amy pulled my sister aside while the rest of us went toward the elevator. My sister came upstairs upset and said Amy told us we had to leave. We were in another town and suddenly had to find somewhere else to stay, without a valid reason. We packed and went downstairs to ask why we were being made to leave and to get our deposit back. Amy said they’d received four complaints that we were smoking marijuana in the room and that we “reeked” of it. That was completely false. We had barely been in the room, and three of the five of us have asthma, so smoke is a serious concern for us. If there had been smoke, the detector would have gone off. Amy refused to show proof, saying she didn’t have to. She said they would keep our money because the curtains would need to be taken down and deep cleaned, and the whole room needed a deep cleaning too. She told us to leave and gave us a card for her manager, Jacqueline Dosworth. Jacqueline wasn’t helpful and didn’t want to listen to my mother’s explanation either. Amy called the police, and four police cars arrived for five women who were only asking questions. It made for a very stressful, upsetting night. We felt discriminated against and unfairly treated.

The front desk staff we interacted with were the best, and there was plenty of parking and breakfast. The gym was great, with all the equipment working, and it had filtered water too. Compared with other hotels nearby, this place felt luxurious and safe. It was clean, and you won't be disappointed.

Everything was clean and well kept, from the room to the rest of the hotel. The bed and linens were comfortable, and the room had all the amenities I needed. I’ll stay here again next time I’m in the area.

Check-in was quick, polite, and professional. The room was cool and didn’t have any funky smell. The gym is a decent size and has filtered water, and breakfast in the morning was nice. I especially liked the ready-to-eat cubed fruit. Great stay.
