DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Bentonville

I’ve stayed here for decades and it’s always been great, but this time the night clerk made me feel unsafe. The parking lot was treacherously dark because the lights were off, so I reported it as a possible emergency. He said it was up to the city, scolded me for speaking while he was checking someone in, and became condescending. I felt something unlawful might be unfolding. He didn’t realize I’m a lifetime diamond member and know hotel procedures well. After plenty of excuses, he finally called maintenance and learned the lights were on timers. They were turned on right away. Not good here.

The bed was comfy and the shower was relaxing, with great pressure. Staff were friendly, and the location was convenient. It was a joy to stay here, and I’d happily come back.

The front desk clerk was nice, and the only reason I’m giving this place any stars. The room stayed hot at night even with the thermostat set to 64F. The sink faucet leaked across the counter, and the toilet failed to flush about half the time. There were water stains all over the walls, and my young son found a disgusting, unidentified smear on the couch. Gross. Do better, Doubletree. This hotel is the epitome of the George Strait song "She Let Herself Go."

This older embassy suites seems reliable and consistent. It’s somewhat dated, but feels clean, and parking is free. If you use Hilton Honors for digital check-in, remember your cookie, and you can pick up two bottles of water at the front desk.
