Residence Inn Philadelphia Valley Forge

Bernice, the manager, was welcoming and friendly. Everything after that was downhill. Our spacious loft was dirty and dated, with filthy walls and hair clumps in different areas. The comforter looked unwashed and had brown debris on it, which might have been dirt or feces. The worst part was housekeeping leaving the latch over the door and the room propped open while we were out. We'd been gone eight hours, so there's no telling how long it was open or who came and went. Every night, weed smell came into our room from the people below us. We won't stay here again.

The bed smelled so awful it made me nauseous, and the whole room had a disgusting smell as soon as we walked in. This place was filthy and neglected. The coffee maker was missing parts and couldn't be used, another sign that basic maintenance wasn't being handled. Outside, the sidewalks and parking spots were icy, with no ice melt anywhere. There was no concern for guest safety. This was the worst hotel I've stayed in, a dirty, unsafe, badly managed place and a waste of money. Stay somewhere else.

For the price, especially at a Marriott, I expected a lot more. I spent one night here with my family and won't come back or recommend it. We arrived early and were offered a room right away, so check-in went well. But the two bedroom suite smelled strongly of smoke on the walls, the bathrooms weren't cleaned thoroughly, and the furniture needs updating. The beds were uncomfortable. Extra sheets in the closet smelled of body odor, like they'd been put back in the plastic bag without being washed. When I called the front desk, they asked twice if I was sure, which made me feel they didn't believe me.

Traveling between Florida and Michigan, we've stayed in plenty of places, and this was the worst. The breakfast was poor quality, the mattress sagged, and everything felt dated. The room looked like it probably hadn't been redecorated since the place was built. My wife and I recently stayed at the residence Inn near Paoli. I like Marriott as a brand, and we've started choosing TownePlace suites instead; they far exceed any residence inn. I'd recommend remodeling this brand.
