Comfort Inn

I called on Saturday evening and put a room on my card, then called back just five minutes later to cancel because I’d decided to keep driving. The front desk employee said they’d charge me anyway because they required 24 hours’ notice. They were rude, and when I spoke to the manager a few days later, he wouldn’t return my money. Just a heads-up, this felt like a rip-off.

Room service woke us at 8 in the morning, and the employees were rude. The bigger problem was the price: I was quoted one amount when booking, then charged more than twice that when checking out. When I raised it, they said there was nothing they could do because I’d signed at arrival. I’d never had a hotel fail to honor its quote, so I hadn’t thought to check. The hotel itself wasn’t nice, and the charge was outrageous, enough that I could have stayed in New York City for that price. Worst hotel experience I’ve had. Don’t stay here.

It was hard to find the hotel at first, tucked behind the Quality Inn. My room looked out on a grass lot between the Baymont Comfort Inn and the Quality Inn, with windows lined up opposite rooms, so guests across the way could see into my room. I wanted to keep an eye on my vehicle at night, and the night manager suggested parking right outside the front so he could watch it. The day manager/owner seemed overwhelmed when I explained the concern, so I left it at that. Inside, some lights didn’t work and half the plug-in lamps were unplugged. The basic cable channel labels were confusing, and the unsecured internet lagged and buffered. There’s a pool, but it’s not much use unless you have kids. I’d try the Quality Inn next time.

This had become a Baymont Inn and Suites, no longer a Comfort Inn. The room was in rough shape: a bathroom vent barely attached, damaged lampshades, stained chair, and a side door key reader nearly pulled off the wall and unusable. The AC was so loud we turned it off to sleep, and the beds squeaked whenever we rolled over. Breakfast was poor too. The toaster barely worked, and staff knew about it and told us to hold the lever down. The food warmers weren’t working either. Worst stop on our cross-country trip by far.
