When I tried to tell the front desk man how disappointing the room was, he made excuse after excuse and never apologized. He said a drunken guest had caused a flood that had recently seeped into my room, then claimed the musty smell was paint. Paint doesn't smell musty, and I told him nobody should be staying in that room. The room itself was awful. The carpet was stained and bunched up, the mildew smell got worse the longer I was there, and there was a large black bug in the bathroom. Behind the shower head, a pipe was exposed and the plaster was crumbling. The toilet fixture was broken. In the morning my leather shoes were damp, as if I'd left them outside. I don't mind older rooms if they're clean and maintained, but this wasn't that. I feel like I wasted my money, and I won't be back.

We checked in on Sept. 21st and were first given room 119. It hadn't been cleaned, and there was an overwhelming musty smell. The front desk gave us room 122 instead. It was clean, but had the same odor. I noticed the shower curtain was covered in mold, so I asked them to change it and used their air freshener. We stayed for a while, until I started having headaches and breathing problems. I called around and found another hotel for twice the price. This place needs to be investigated before the mold kills someone.

My wife was booked for two nights at the Bloomington Days Inn. After a very long day for Mom's weekend, she came back on the second night and found a bug on her pillow. She thought it was a bed bug and brought it in a cup to the night clerk, who didn't seem concerned. He offered another room, but she found a long brown hair in the sheets and declined. She left close to 1 am. We were charged for both nights. Later, they said by email that she hadn't complained and that they would need proof. I sent the photo she took of the bug and screenshots of our texts from midnight to 1 am, but never heard back. Days Inn corporate was very helpful. The owner and manager at this location were dismissive, and the cleanliness was terrible.

Even though it's their off-season, the first room was really bad. It smelled like someone had a campfire in it, hadn't been cleaned, had no towels, and some of the lights didn't work. They moved us to another room, where we found shot glasses on the floor. The bathroom light was out, so I had to put in a bulb just to shower. Some of the outlets didn't work either. I only discovered that in the morning when my computer hadn't charged, even though it was plugged into the same outlet as a working light. If you're going to beautiful Bloomington, plan well ahead and get a nicer room. This would be my last choice. I'd bring my own linens, pillows, and towels. Spend a little more and get a lot more. Lesson learned!

You could do a whole lot worse, especially at this price. The manager and his wife are friendly, good-natured people who genuinely care about your stay. The accommodations are decent, with some dents and dings but nothing major. It's no Ritz, but I'd recommend it to anyone on a budget.
