I phoned Colony Motel before my visit to check the arrangements and explained that I have a medical alert service dog. They told me on the call that the dog would not be allowed. That’s very concerning. Medical alert service dogs are protected by the ADA, and hotels have to admit them regardless of pet rules. Turning one away over the phone is still a clear ADA violation. I hope management trains staff on the law so other people who depend on service animals aren’t discouraged or refused.

The owner went way above what I’d expect to help sort out a really complicated situation. He even got out of bed and drove over. I’ve never had customer service at that level. Thanks to him and the front desk manager. Writing this on 10-20 @10:12.

I didn’t feel safe or like anything was clean, and the price just wasn’t worth it. I was out all day and only came back to sleep and shower. I woke up with swollen ankles covered in some kind of bug bites. The sink and shower drained badly, and the showerhead had crust on it with rust on the pole. During my four-day stay nobody offered fresh towels or soap refills. The fridge barely got cold, I wouldn’t trust the microwave, and the TV remote didn’t work. There were filthy carpets, holes from cigarettes in the comforter, and bra tags left by previous guests. It made me wonder whether the room had been cleaned at all. The owners were nice, but that was the only good part.

There are lots of restaurants nearby. The customer service was good, and the room service staff were very clean and polite.

Nothing fancy, just a simple little motel in a perfect spot for getting around. My room was clean, and I really appreciated that they had a smoking room. Those are hard to find.
