Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Dayton West - Brookville by IHG

We'd originally booked the Brookvillie Inn across the street, but left after finding dog poop under the bed and seeing how filthy it was. I'm glad this nice hotel was nearby. It was the nicest place I've stayed in a while, with friendly staff, very clean rooms, and a spotless bathroom. The soaps were nice, too. Breakfast was freshly cooked eggs, bagels, delicious coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and more.

The elevator made noises like it could quit at any moment. My room was on the third floor. The toilet was clogged when I arrived, but they fixed it promptly. The window was closed, though it wouldn't lock, which didn't feel like a huge issue that high up. The door needed a hard pull or push to shut and lock.

Breakfast was good on both of the two mornings we ate there. The hotel costs a bit more, but I think it was worth it overall. The rooms are updated and clean, and the staff are pleasant and helpful. I'd stay again.

The room showed how neglected the hotel is: no sink stopper, mildew over much of the tub caulk, and a tub that drained very slowly. In the suite there was a wooden panel and outlets where a second TV should have been, and we had to slam the door to close it properly. The elevator carpet was disgusting and needs replacing, with more attention needed to deep cleaning throughout. Breakfast was basic, without the extras that have made other Holiday Inn Express locations stand out. It's clear management isn't investing in maintenance. I feel for the staff, who seemed to be trying their best. This hotel isn't worth the higher price. We've stayed at a lot of IHG hotels and seen good and bad management, and this one is among the bad ones.
