The front desk staff were helpful and friendly, and the rooms are new. Those were the best parts of my Marriott stay. The walls are thin enough that every noise carries, and I didn’t sleep well. You can see it in my video. For longer stays, the hotel offers two service days each week, but one is only a “refresh,” meaning they bring towels to the room. That was a tough arrangement at first, though the hotel has improved since then. I’ve stayed for extended periods at budget hotels nearby and found them more dependable. Breakfast was mediocre, not the worst I’ve had, but Staybridge hotel has the best breakfast in the area.
The kitchenette made this a great room for a longer stay, and I slept like a log in the comfortable bed. The room was spotless too. Emily from housekeeping did a phenomenal job, and the whole property felt well looked after. Breakfast was tasty and nicely presented, with especially good eggs. The location also worked perfectly for everything I needed to do. Most of all, manager Ashley was wonderful. I’d messed up my reservation and was stressed, but she was so sweet and friendly, put me at ease, and went out of her way to make sure I could stay for the whole trip and be comfortable. I don’t usually write reviews, but this stay at the TownePlace Suites in Brownsville was one of my best hotel experiences in a long time, after years of travel. Everything was fantastic, and I highly recommend it.
The fire alarm went off just before midnight on the second night and woke our whole family, including our young kids. We had to evacuate in our pajamas because of a false alarm related to construction at the front entrance. It was unsettling and inconvenient with an early morning ahead, and my son couldn’t sleep well afterward because he kept thinking about the alarm. There were mixed messages from staff when we asked for help with a leaking dishwasher. On the first night, it started leaking around midnight. The front desk said they’d send towels, but none came, so we used our own to clean up. Jose kindly offered to move us, but another employee said management had instructed staff not to move guests. We didn’t want to make things worse, so we stayed on the condition that the dishwasher would be repaired. The room also wasn’t properly cleaned when we arrived: two used Q-tips were left beside the bed. The hotel is new and looks appealing, but across our three nights the cleanliness lapse, poor follow-up, conflicting staff responses, and construction disturbance made the stay feel disorganized and inconsiderate. The place has potential, which makes these avoidable problems disappointing.
I arrived at TownePlace Suites Brownsville with a confirmed reservation and was told there was no room. Earlier that day, the hotel had emailed to admit the booking went through even though they were sold out. Ashley and Jose at the front desk confirmed they’d allowed reservations despite having no rooms, then expected guests to find and pay for somewhere else. I’d also watched them do this to another couple the previous night, so it seemed like a repeated practice. They should have followed Marriott’s standard “walk” process, where the hotel arranges and pays for a comparable or better room. Instead, they tried to say the reservation shouldn’t have been booked. That isn’t the guest’s responsibility once a confirmation has been issued. This is especially irresponsible for business and government travelers who arrive late after a full workday. A confirmed booking should mean you have a room. The way they handled it felt unethical, and their attempt to gaslight me is unforgivable.
Breakfast was a real highlight the next morning, with lots of fresh choices and plenty of hot food. Destiny, who was working there, was welcoming and made sure people were looked after. The day before, I’d had time for a swim in the spotless pool and made dinner in the full kitchenette, which had everything I needed. The oven worked perfectly, and the bed was so comfortable I slept great. The hotel feels brand new, with beautiful, clean, modern rooms. Check-in was quick, and the front desk staff were friendly from the moment I arrived yesterday. It’s rare to find a new, attractive place with people who make you feel at home. I’m really glad I picked it.
