Super 8 Buena Vista

The hot tub was nice, the staff were friendly, and the room was clean and stocked well. Breakfast was a standard continental spread, nothing special. But the bed was literally the worst thing I’ve ever tried to sleep on. Neither of us got much rest. It had one fuzzy blanket, then something that looked like an actual curtain, not a blanket meant for two people to share in winter.

The hotel was easy to communicate with, and check-in and checkout were a breeze. They sent simple texts with links to surveys on the website. I was just passing through and wanted an affordable, reliable option. The concierge was very sweet and accommodating, and I got a simple upgrade at no extra cost, making the stay perfect. The rooms are average, but the microwave and fridge were clean. My upgrade gave me two queen beds, and since I only used one, having all those pillows was splendid. You can never have too many. There were plenty of towels and a tub, too. After driving from Telluride to Buena Vista, a warm soak before heading home to Denver was lovely.

We’re long-time Wyndham gold members, and this stay was a huge disappointment. The small room had permanent stains on the furniture, cracks in the toilet bowl, and a shower curtain too short to stay inside the tub. We were in town for a concert and had arranged a late checkout both on the website and with the morning front desk. I have a photo of the approval. When Gary came on duty, he called at 11:45 and woke us, then made us leave without a shower under threat of extra charges. He didn’t care about the online approval or my gold status and said so to my face. Gary was a complete jerk. The place is grossly overpriced, too. The night before, we paid half as much for a room at a Comfort Inn in Boulder using my Choice Hotels membership. This dump shouldn’t be associated with Wyndham under the new ownership. Wouldn’t recommend it or stay again. 💯👎

It’s a great little hotel, with a pool, a good breakfast, and very clean rooms. Gary at the front desk was friendly and helpful, and the staff tried to help find my shirt after I called as soon as I got home. Still, it was definitely in the room when we left, and it disappeared. That’s why I’m giving three stars instead of five. I’d stay here again, but make sure you take everything when you check out.
