I was a little nervous after reading recent reviews, but found the place charming. Staff were friendly and helpful, and when I arrived at noon they let me check in at 2 p.m. The front desk suggested the cafe for coffee, which was wonderful. It’s a historic hotel near the theatre district, and the Sabre stadium is an easy walk away. My room and bedding were clean, and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The fitness room is dated and its one treadmill wasn’t working, but there was a yoga mat and dumbbells, so that was enough for me.

So disappointing. Guests ran up and down the hall screaming for an hour, and when I called the front desk to complain, nobody answered. There was trash in the lobby when I went out for coffee in the morning, and it was still there when I checked out. The place feels like a shell of what it used to be. The walls are dinged up, the trim is damaged or missing, the shower dial came off in my hand, and the bathroom door was broken. There used to be good vendors in the lobby, but now there’s nothing.

The manager on duty was kind and tried to help after Wyndham’s outdated page caused us to book a room that wasn’t ADA accessible. The only accessible option was a much smaller room meant for one person, even though there were two of us. The building feels stuck somewhere between art deco and art demo, and the lobby was in disarray. The fragrance throughout smelled like a public restroom, though a clean one. In the replacement room, the paint was cracked and peeling, the trim and doorframe were damaged, and there was mold on the fire escape map and mildew around the door. For $200-plus a night, this is disgraceful and absolutely not a three-star facility. If you’re visiting the area, stay outside Buffalo. The other hotels around here seem similar.

We rented a room for a downtown weekend and ended up leaving in the middle of the night. The first room reeked of cigarette smoke, so we asked to move. The second seemed fine at first, then we noticed questionable stains on the walls, doors and tiles, broken handles, doors and knobs that didn’t work, peeling paint, and broken HVAC, which was a fireplace. The final straw was finding a cockroach. The operation felt amateurish from check-in. The lobby was eerily quiet, and most of the listed amenities no longer exist except Public, which is a solid coffee spot. There was no valet, security, or housekeeping. One staff member was tucked behind a wall at the desk, which occupied a tiny section of the huge original counter with no signs. Staff wore street clothes, barely greeted us, and gave no directions or information about the hotel. You can see where the historic parts stop and the cheap particleboard finishes begin. If you’re curious about the history, walk around and look in the lobby during the day, then stay somewhere else nearby. As of February 2026, this is a very bush league operation and not worth the price after taxes and fees. Better places cost about the same in the surrounding area. I don’t recommend it, and I’d be skeptical of some of the recent five-star reviews.

We’d stayed at this hotel in past years, but our one-night visit to the city this time wasn’t good. The restaurant and bar were closed, the place looked dated and uninviting, and the rooms need updating. The front desk staff weren’t friendly or up to standard. I even had to ask whether we were all set to go up to our room. The hallways smelled strongly of floral deodorizer. I wouldn’t recommend it.
