Amory Guest House

I was in Cambridge for a conference and found the Amory suited my needs really well. The room was quiet, clean, and comfortable, and the place is carefully maintained and organized. The common areas have an unpretentious, comfortable New England feel. I’ve already booked another stay.

I’ve been around Boston for just eight days, but I’m happy with my accommodations so far. It’s a clean, distinctive large home, and the owners are friendly, welcoming, down-to-earth people. The neighborhood seems fairly decent, with all kinds of shopping and local places to eat nearby. BWH is also within 30 minutes by public transit, which works great for me. I’m saving a lot of money by not taking an Uber every day!

I picked Amory House for my first night in Cambridge after a London trip, then stayed a second night too. I’d researched crime and walkability a bit since I don’t know the area. I had a good stay and got a discount, though at $90 a night I wouldn’t have been too excited. Lodging prices make me a bit stingy, which is why I gave four stars. The house seems to be a leftover mill house, very large and divided into sections. It’s set up for comfortable living with multiple people, with rooms tucked into their own corners and sometimes their own bathrooms. I think I counted 17 rooms. Check-in was just entering a code at the door. At first it confused me that nobody was there to greet me, but I ended up liking the setup. Checkout is basically leaving the room key behind. The furnishings are modern, while the house itself is a little run down. The beds were great, the common areas were nice, and there were breakfast supplies in the fridge. It was warm, too. If you’re lucky and nobody else is staying, it feels like having a big, well-furnished house in central Cambridge to yourself, which I liked. I stopped in Boston/Cambridge at the end of my London trip because it made flights a little cheaper.

The hotel was cozy and fairly central. My room was very nice, the bed was comfortable, and the Wi-Fi worked well and was included. The bathrooms are shared, but clean and quite nice, with what seemed like enough of them. I’d absolutely stay here again.
