Bethany’s response at checkout was the worst part of a very unsettling stay. On Sunday morning we found a small bug crawling on the unused bed toward one of our bags. I caught it in an empty water bottle and checked a picture online. It was clearly a bed bug. We gathered our things on the table and waited politely while another guest was helped, then showed the staff what we’d found. Bethany was dismissive. She said there was one way to find out, went behind the desk, then returned with a napkin, poured the bug out, smeared it with her finger, and said she didn’t think it was a bed bug because it hadn’t left a blood mark. She didn’t apologize and just checked us out. I know that finding one can mean there are likely more. Some are fed and bigger, while others aren’t. I’d checked under the beds before settling in, but I couldn’t take apart the box spring, which is probably where this one came from. Now we’re home with all our belongings stuffed in a plastic bag in the backyard, hoping the sun gets hot enough to kill any hitchhikers. It’s gross and inconvenient. I’m also worried for whoever gets room 210 next, since I don’t trust that Bethany told management after the way she handled it. That followed two nights of other problems. On our first night, the room was too hot, the AC thermostat barely worked, and something in the room triggered my allergies, so I hardly slept. At breakfast, the coffee and juice machines were broken, the attendant said at 8:30 AM that he was making the last pot of coffee, and the waffle machine looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a while. I know this isn’t a five-star hotel, but breakfast was below standard. We asked for fresh sheets on the second night, and I slept better. We had two queen beds but only used one. The other had a questionable reddish stain underneath, so we used it for bags and clothes. I always check for bed bugs before settling in. Aside from Bethany and the breakfast attendant, all the staff were SUPER kind and helpful.

The breakfast was excellent, and the fridge was handy, with a roomy freezer above it. Joan was wonderful at breakfast. She wiped up a mess I’d made and even dabbed dish soap on my shirt to help prevent a stain. Bree at the front desk was understanding too. Our room problems made the stay difficult. We’d reserved a king but got a handicap king. There was no TV the first night, the shower sprayed water across the floor because there was no curtain, the sink dripped, and we heard the elevator all night. We changed rooms the next day, but kings were gone, so we got two queens. There was no power between the beds, meaning no phone, clock, C-Pap machine, or place to charge our phones. We asked the manager for an extension cord. She said she’d find one, but when we went to get it around 6, she’d left and no cord had turned up. Since the phone had no power, we had to get towels from the front desk ourselves each day. The shower heads really need replacing. We also noticed the coffee maker had a sign dated September 2025 saying it didn’t work, though they did provide a percolator.

The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, but the hotel’s upkeep was poor, and the key card programmer needs to be replaced. I checked in on Monday, Dec 29, and staff tried programming my card four times. It still wouldn’t open the door. They confirmed the card and door weren’t the issue, the programmer was. One employee came up with a creative workaround, which I appreciated because otherwise I couldn’t have entered my room, though it didn’t seem ideal for the employee. Other guests told me they had the same problem, so it sounds widespread and probably not new. An employee said the machine was old. Someone needs to get one that programs cards properly. I won’t stay here again. There were other maintenance problems too. One boiler was broken, leaving us with only lukewarm water one night when the hotel was full. The breakfast coffee machine was out of order. My toilet was missing a floor bolt and wobbled, the sink dripped, and the underside of the shower seat looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. I can’t say whether the issues are due to low pay, too few staff, or a lack of equipment. The room did have a fridge with a separate freezer door, which was nice, and the bed was comfortable. The friendliness of the staff was the best part of the place.

I wanted to push back on any harsh comments the staff might get tonight for a situation they couldn’t control. It’s New Year’s Eve 2025, the holidays are still going, and patience and compassion matter. Getting angry at the messenger only makes things harder. I guarantee the really nice woman on the front desk didn’t want this happening either. Machines sometimes have hiccups, and tonight that made check-in difficult for everyone, staff, guests, and dogs. The dogs don’t seem to mind, though. Is every dog in Camp Verde happy? Some guests got angry and yelled at the staff. Shame on them. Actually, maybe they were having a bad day, and maybe I shouldn’t throw shade either. I take that back, sorry. Next time, we can all take a breath and be kind. Angry behavior will definitely put the fine dogs of camp verde l comfort inn on edge. Be nice for the dogs’ sake, and Happy New Years!

The hotel was clean, and breakfast was standard hotel food but kept hot and stocked. My problem was one employee, whose attitude toward me was bad from our first interaction. She was rude about my checkout time and date. I said I’d have the third-party company call to sort it out, but she kept talking rudely, so I said I wouldn’t argue and walked away. We didn’t speak again before checkout day, two days later. At 10:59am she called and said she’d call the police if I wasn’t out in 30 minutes. The third party had called to extend my stay, but she told the manager and the company I’d been rude and belligerent for all four days, so they refused the extension. I only left my room to get breakfast or outside food, and had no other interactions with staff except check-in, where the woman was very nice. I don’t know why she had a problem with me, and I won’t claim it was anything beyond her horrible attitude. I drive trucks and stay at plenty of hotels without this happening. No one asked what had occurred, and being labeled rude and refused service when I’d avoided confrontation has now also been noted on my company account. I usually don’t leave reviews like this, but it matters. I challenge her and management to say when I was rude to any staff member. Please train her in customer service or let her go. She’s a bad mark on an otherwise decent hotel for the price, and I won’t return.
