Hidden Villa Cottages

Hidden Villa Motel is in a quaint neighborhood very close to the beach, and we really enjoyed the location. But for nearly $200 a night, we won't be coming back to cabin #3. The cabin felt eerie from the start and seemed poorly maintained. The dishes were mismatched and didn't feel clean, there was a disturbing stain on the corner chair, and the couch was cracked and worn. Rusty shower fixtures and spiders around them made us uncomfortable using the shower. A bug repellent device clicked constantly, adding to the odd feeling, and the bathroom smelled bad. When I dropped my phone and looked under the bed, I found a thick layer of dust that looked untouched. We ended up putting our shirts over the pillows so we could feel comfortable.

The location was great, which makes it especially sad that this place needs so much work. We booked in the off season for the price and location, but I wouldn't stay here. The doors and locks didn't work properly: we couldn't get the code to work, and the key fell out of its box, so otherwise we couldn't have gotten in. The heat barely worked, the bathroom wall looked water damaged, and our electronics kept falling out of the loose outlets. The place needs a deep clean, new furniture, outlets and paint, as well as new management and cleaning staff. We arrived late, tired and hungry, so we didn't look around much at check-in. The futon was ripped and had been stitched back together cheaply, which concerned me, but I brushed it off. Then my boyfriend showered and found soap and other bathroom products left by previous guests. My dog sniffed under the sink, where I spotted some kind of bait that I assume was for bugs or mice. I also found long black hairs on the bed and in the bathroom, definitely not mine since I have short blonde hair. I told the property manager and had to find somewhere else to sleep that night. I asked for a refund, but 48 hours passed without a response, so I disputed the charge with my bank. I had sent pictures and told the manager I was leaving that night, but as the text shows, no immediate refund was offered, and I still haven't heard anything. I sincerely hope the property manager and cleaning crew are fired.

The cottages are cute and cozy, allow pets, and come with a full kitchen. Ours had a queen bed and a daybed. The bathroom was tiny but clean and well finished. It's just a couple of blocks from Canon Beach, an especially beautiful walk in the morning or at sunset.

The room wasn't cleaned well, with dirty dishes in the cupboards and a couch throw that smelled like pee. There was barely enough hot water for a shower, and we were very disappointed. We did like how close it was to the shops and beach. It's a shame they don't take more pride in keeping the rooms clean.
