Inn at Haystack Rock

The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and parking was convenient. Check-in took no time. We couldn’t get the fireplace to turn on and never figured out the fix, though the bathroom heater helped warm things up. The bathroom was small and the appliances were older, but they worked fine. A good stay for the price, and I’d recommend it.

We were happy with the room over our two-night stay. The full kitchen was useful, and everything was laid out clearly and easy to use. Check-in was quick. The doors lock automatically, though the deadbolt is manual. We used the communal fire pit on the second night, but I wish matches had been included.

On 2/13/26, my husband booked us a weekend because Conny had kindly called back and dealt with an issue from my last stay. The room next to ours had extremely loud sawing construction, and other guests played their music loudly. Mary at the front desk was incredibly rude. I was the one who spoke to her about the construction during my stay. Now they’re saying our reservation is cancelled because we damaged the room and behaved poorly toward staff. That’s a lie. We didn’t damage anything, and we aren’t people who leave rented rooms in bad condition. They claim to have photos and evidence of pet droppings, even though my service pet is potty trained. I left one used potty pad in the trash while I was sleeping. My dog went outside every time, and I cleaned up after him. I even spoke with the manager several times, and she never mentioned damage. She had talked about having the room set up romantically for our next stay. The room wasn’t especially clean to begin with. There was gross hair in the bowl under the stove and hair in the hot tub, but I didn’t make a fuss because I didn’t want to put people off over housekeeping. There was also a small blood stain on the pillowcase, which seemed like a typical sign of bed bugs. Gross. I set that pillow aside and used my own. I also wonder if housekeeping was upset that I didn’t leave a tip, since I didn’t find the room very clean. Mary, you’re a lying, miserable old lady. I’ll make sure everyone hears about her and how this played out, and I’ll tell people not to stay there. To the owners at Haystack Rock, I’m disgusted by how you treat guests. I’ll contact the health board and a few other places since this is how you treat people, and I’ll leave as many negative reviews as I can.

The problems started after checkout. I’d prepaid through Booking.com at the confirmed price, and at check-in gave my card only for the usual $100 incidental authorization. That hold was released, so everything seemed settled. Then a month later the hotel charged almost $200 to my card without my approval. When I called, they wouldn’t refund it and said the stay actually cost $200 more than the Booking.com rate. That was completely false. They had no right to charge me again without permission. I eventually got the refund processed with help from Booking.com support, while the hotel still wouldn’t cooperate. The room itself was tiny, humid, stuffy, and had no air conditioning. Parking was included in my booking, but sometimes there weren’t any spaces. This was the worst hotel experience I’ve had in the U.S. The behavior around my card felt borderline fraudulent and is unacceptable. I strongly recommend staying elsewhere, both because the rooms and amenities were uncomfortable and because I don’t trust them with my credit card details.
