La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Canton MS

We paid $120 a night, but the ice machine looked like it hadn't been used in months and was out of order. The elevator only works sometimes, and the A/C is unreliable. I've been told all the hotels on this strip are terrible. Make the extra drive from Jackson and stay somewhere else.

We stayed in room 323. It seems they are trying, or have tried, to fix the place up, but there were problems. The floor felt weak underfoot, as if water damage across the property had never been repaired, and it didn't seem able to support weight. The window was cracked, with mold or mildew on the curtain, and the blackout curtains were stuck to the wall with blue painter's tape. There was no ice machine on the third floor, and the one on the first floor was broken. The washer and dryer cost far too much, $3.75 per load for washing or drying.

La Quinta is usually pretty nice, and we've stayed at its hotels all over the US. This one was rundown, though, and the whole floor smelled like cat pee. I had to ask for a second room. Avoid this hotel and stay at the Holiday Inn across the street.

The location and room layout were very good, but the technology and service fell short. I had to get my key card replaced several times. The hot water didn't work, and two of the three TVs had problems: one had no sound, and the other wouldn't change channels. Bottled water cost $2.00, and food put out for breakfast at 5:30 a.m. was never replenished. For all of this, the option they offered was to move rooms.
