Best Western Saluki Inn

The attached restaurant is handy if you want a bite, and breakfast was pretty good too. Our room and the shared areas were clean, updated, and organized. I slept like a baby during our couple of days here. I’ll book again next time I’m in town.

We’ve stayed here several times while visiting SIU, and before this the issues were minor, like a hot room or a fridge that didn’t work. This visit was different. When we opened the door, bugs scattered everywhere. We showed photos to the front desk, and the response was just, “oh, ok.” She handed us a key for a room across the hall. When I asked how she knew that room was clear, she said, “no, it’s okay.” It was family weekend, so we felt stuck. I bought Raid at Walmart across the street and sprayed our room from top to bottom. Less than five minutes after we returned the key, we saw another guest go into that same room. They didn’t fix the problem, they just handed it off to someone else. This used to be our slightly cheaper place for SIU visits, but at $150 a night I’ll gladly pay more elsewhere. We won’t be back.

My laptop wouldn’t work with the wifi, so I had to use my mobile hotspot to get work done. It’s a work laptop. The room itself was pretty quiet even though the hotel is next to a bar. The beds felt a little stiff to me, but they had a full breakfast, coffee, creamers, and juice.

At breakfast I was the only person there. They had whole milk but no low-fat option, and the orange juice tasted more like water. There was also some white stuff in the pool last night. It’s hard to find anyone at the front desk. People kept calling out hello, and nobody came. We even called the hotel and could hear the phone ringing, but the guy still didn’t show up. The sign says they’re open every day.
