Appalachian Hotel

Check-in was smooth, and the lobby looks presentable. From outside, the place also seems nice, so you get the impression it’s a good hotel. The sheets were clean, at least, but the room was a disappointment. The hallway smelled bad. The tub was filthy, painted over, and peeling. Paint was coming off the walls where there was mold, and there was mold on the lamp too. I wasn’t interested in trying breakfast. The nightly rate isn’t worth it, and neither is the $100 security deposit. I won’t come back. Looks can be deceiving.

We spent three nights there, and the best part was the great diner right beside the hotel. The room had a smoking-room smell and cigarette burns in the blankets. There were stains and a weird smell throughout the hotel, and the heater was either blasting or off. We had to get the room key fixed five times. There was no coffee pot in the room and no fresh coffee available. Housekeeping was only by request. Breakfast was a waffle maker, questionable-looking oranges, sugary cereal, stale bread, and yogurt. I’d look elsewhere if you don’t want to worry about bugs and fleas. Maybe the Super 8 across the street is better?

Those hallways are creepy, straight out of The Shining, but the staff were friendly. Breakfast area had good food, and housekeeping came every day to clean the floors and replace towels and soap. I’d give it six stars if I could!

One end of the motel reeks like dogs have been pooping everywhere. The dogs bark a lot, and you can’t even go outside there because there’s dog mess all over the concrete and grass. I can’t believe anyone would let a regular guest ruin their business like this. It’s beyond nasty and needs to be reported to the authorities.
