We had a lovely evening, with wine and appetizers by the fire in the main dining room. The Abalone and bread were outstanding, the wine was very good, and the service was perfect. The one issue was the salad. We ordered baby iceberg lettuce, but got a wedge of regular iceberg instead. I told our waiter to let the chef know we can tell the difference. Around Monterey, plenty of produce people eat here, and baby lettuce is tender and sweet, while this iceberg was firm and overripe. Customers should be told when one is being substituted for the other. Apart from that, everything was wonderful.

Destyne’s yoga classes were a highlight, and Sara at the restaurant/bar gave us outstanding service. They’re good examples of how welcoming and attentive the staff are throughout the property. The setting is beautiful, and the whole experience feels thoughtfully put together to make your stay feel special.

We’d come back in a heartbeat. It’s a serene, discreet, classy hideaway, the best I’ve found west of the Mississippi, not just in Carmel Valley. Beautiful rooms, friendly and respectful staff, and amazing food. Our pooch was happy there too.

This is just about the spa. My wife and I paid $150 each for the day package. It was relaxing enough, but for that price the facilities felt pretty underwhelming. Admission covered a locker room, sauna, steam room, small warm pool, and massage waiting area with couches, light snacks, and water. The steam room was the main attraction, though nothing special, and the sauna wasn’t heated. There was shaving gear but no cream, and no cold plunge. At checkout, we found an extra “service fee” of about $46. Staff said it went to people behind the scenes folding towels, and that it was optional. Why isn’t that built into admission? Paying the staff shouldn’t be optional. It was an unpleasant surprise at the end, and it wasn’t clear whether the money even reached those employees. They should charge the full amount up front so guests can leave without dealing with a hidden fee.

This is our favorite place to recharge as a family. The details, amenities, activities, and complimentary extras are all great, and we love the on-site restaurant. The Mercedes test drive is a fun perk too. We’re always looking forward to coming back.
