The animals around the property are really cute, and the restaurant food and room service were both good. But there are few activities, and for a hotel of this calibre I expected better. At check-in, a child hit my chair with a clipboard and another sat beside me as if I were their parent; neither their parents nor the check-in person did anything. We were charged $50 after the Globalist free breakfast credit, for one alcoholic beverage and other service fees. They couldn't show me a breakdown of the $30 in unexplained fees. After we got home, I spotted an unauthorized charge of almost $500. The manager and I spoke over several calls, and the charge was reversed. They said it was a mistake, from pressing the wrong button. That's completely unacceptable, and nothing more was done to make it right. I didn't think we'd return. Update: the manager reached out, and it was a pleasure talking with them. My husband and I will give the place another chance.

The grounds at Carmel Valley Ranch are spectacular, with hiking trails, gardens, and animals. We were there for a work conference and couldn't make full use of the amenities, but the setting made the trip feel special. The meeting spaces were spacious, well designed, and excellent for professional events. Catering was excellent throughout, and dinner was genuinely delicious. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable from the moment we arrived. I had a preexisting injury, and they promptly brought ice packs when I was in pain. I really appreciated how they accommodated me. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and lovely, with quality furniture and a relaxing layout. It was clean and suited a business stay well. The decor was fairly minimal, with basic bedding and little detail, so it lacked some of the character I expected from a place called a “ranch.” The rooms aren't ultra-luxurious, but that didn't bother me. Carmel Valley Ranch is an incredible place for conferences, retreats, or events, with warm service and beautiful surroundings. I can't wait to return with more time to enjoy everything.

The grounds were much larger than we expected, with well-kept landscaping and a quick, efficient shuttle if you don't feel like walking. The property seemed very pet friendly, and the dogs we saw were cute and well behaved. There were a lot of families with young kids too; most behaved well, though we did hear the occasional screaming child. We had a great dinner at Valley Kitchen, excellent cocktails, and a fun server, Jose. Staff were warm as we walked to check-in, and Prachi and the rest of the front desk team were professional and kind. Our Globalist status got us a lucky upgrade to a suite, much larger than the room we'd originally booked. There are activities for adults and kids, though most cost extra. We joined the included cheese tasting and gym classes, and both were well organized. I'd reserve gym classes ahead, since I think the club members use them too. I'd been unsure about the trip because of mixed online reviews and an email a week before our stay saying the lobby, lodge pool and hot tub, and spa would be under renovation. Still, we had an excellent time. Our only regret is not staying longer. Highly recommended :)

The farm visits and gym classes at the club were our two favorite activities, and the on-site restaurant is a must for breakfast and dinner. The food was phenomenal. Between that, the spacious rooms, beautiful grounds, and great amenities, Carmel Valley Ranch easily beats some pricier options in the area. Every part of our staycation felt memorable because of the hospitality. Desk and restaurant staff, shuttle drivers, farmhands, and others all went the extra mile. From the moment we arrived, they treated us with real grace and care. The resort is an absolute stunner. I wish I could keep its beauty a secret, but the staff and hotel deserve the praise. I have nothing bad to say and can't wait to return. Glad it's only a few hours away.

Our Feb 9-10 stay left us with mixed feelings. We loved the beautiful grounds and activities, and Carmel Valley Ranch is a fantastic, very family-friendly resort for people with little ones. But both my husband and I woke up with multiple bug bites all over our bodies in Room 302. At a luxury property, that's deeply concerning and disappointing. We've reported it to management. We really want to come back because we like the resort so much, and hope they thoroughly treat Room 302 right away so this doesn't happen to other guests.
