The room was nice and cold, and breakfast was good. Rates were negotiable, check-in was quick and easy, and the staff welcomed me warmly. The front desk woman on the night shift had great customer service and greeted me as soon as I walked in. I’d stay here again and recommend it to family and friends.

The rooms are average, though fairly large. The beds are hard and uncomfortable, and housekeeping wasn’t very good: the lid on our ice container looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months, and the smoke detector was missing. The pool was a mess, with junk in it, including clear plastic you might not see until you stepped on it. They may not even remember to unlock it for guests. I also saw grown men walking around half naked, drinking beer and smoking cigarettes at all hours, and the place seemed fine with that. Meanwhile, guests are discouraged from having visitors or sharing the pool and public picnic area. You can’t even ask for extra towels unless you hand in the used ones. Don’t believe the family-friendly tag. This place caters directly to out-of-town workers. If you’re okay with drunks in the pool and wandering around, you’ll be fine. For family time, it might be better to go somewhere else.

Hotels in Carrizo Springs, Texas, are overpriced because of the oil boom. If you don’t have to stop in town, keep driving. Not stopping might help curb the high prices.

The beds were hard as rocks, and the next morning there was no coffee or breakfast. After the AC failed to cool our first room, we moved to another and asked for a fan to circulate the air. The woman acted as though we were inconveniencing her. We’d reserved a room a day in advance, but were charged $20 more than I’d been quoted on the phone. It was only 105 degrees, and you’d think they would turn on the AC ahead of time in summer so the room could cool off.
