The room had a lot of charm, with a roomy shower and a bath, plus a microwave, mini refrigerator, and coffeemaker. We didn’t need the coffeemaker in the morning because our host left hot coffee, juice, and the Boston Globe outside our door, then quietly slipped a note underneath to tell us. The inn is easy to reach and sits on a quiet road, with great views. I can only call it magical. You have to see it to appreciate it.

There are beautiful beaches close by, and trails through conservation land start right behind the inn, so don't miss a walk there. My daughter loved seeing two white swans paddling, then, the next day, a group of ducks lined up along one of the cranberry bog canals. A fantastic host and a wonderful place to stay.

The breakfast was generous and really delicious, and the owners were so warm and hospitable. Our room was spotless and beautifully decorated. We absolutely loved it. I’d recommend this place to anyone wanting a relaxing weekend away. A must-do!

I’ve stayed there more than 20 times, and summers are phenomenal. There’s a 4 mi walk around the cranberry bog and Kingman's Marina is a short walk away. After a tough night, the consummate innkeeper had a Bloody Mary ready for me.

I called to book a room for the two-week school I was attending in Buzzards Bay. Phil asked a lot of detailed questions about why I was visiting and my dates. I’d start to give them, and he kept interrupting with “Hold on” and asking again. He wanted to know whether I’d seen his website too. It felt weird, but I answered him. Then he said, “I think you're trying to scam me!” He wanted a check for half the cost before making a reservation. He wouldn’t take a credit card because he didn’t know me and said cards bounce all the time. He also didn’t use Venmo or PayPal. He questioned me aggressively about my school. When I paused to look up the facility’s exact name, he took that to mean I didn’t know where I’d be studying. It was my first time there, of course I didn’t know. I’d already told him the government was paying for the hotel, but when I offered my credit card instead of a government check, he acted like he’d caught me lying. “Last question, and if you don't get it right, I'll hang up. Is the school on the cape?” How was I supposed to know what counted as “on the cape”? He didn’t hang up, but kept berating me and picking apart inconsistencies in my story. Anyway, being called a scammer and getting such a fishy feeling about Phil sent me elsewhere. It’s a bummer, since staying at Wood Duck Inn could have made my commute to school 8 minutes, and the place looks gorgeous in pictures. But if the owner is so disrespectful and mistrustful on the phone, I can only wonder how creepy he’d be in person.
