Ramada Cedar Rapids

My little dog enjoyed staying here, and I’d happily come back. Breakfast was very good, and the bed was wonderfully soft, which suits me since most hotel beds feel too hard. The only drawbacks were the somewhat loud A/C and bathroom fan.

The staff and the location really set this place apart, and the rates were reasonable even during a baseball tournament when other hotels in town had raised their prices to absurd levels. This one was $20-$30 cheaper than places that were nowhere near as accommodating. Management regularly checked in with guests and seemed eager to help, and the staff went above and beyond. Thanks for the hospitality, I’ll definitely be back. The hotel is dated, but there’s potential: the lobby is beautiful, there’s a restaurant and bar with room service, plus a good-sized indoor pool and fitness room. My room had nice furniture and an amazingly soft bed. The bathroom is older, though the shower pressure and shower head were great, and several windows need replacing. I’d called after being hurried out of another hotel at 11:15 a.m., even while carrying my luggage, to ask about arriving around noon. They had a room ready as soon as I got there. Keep it up and this place could be a gem! 😀

For $86, this was a steal. There are a few restaurants within walking distance on the same block, and the hotel has truck parking and guest laundry. The young men who I think are cousins made breakfast, which was decent, and they were friendly and polite. Outside, the place looked a little rough, but inside it was very nice and clean for a budget hotel. My room and the updated bathroom were clean, with no odd smells. One catch with the laundry: you need to bring your own quarters because they don’t give change.

On our last night, I went to unplug my laptop charger and the outlet came out of the wall, giving me a small shock. After that, we contacted the staff and manager but got lies and evasions. Corporate said they couldn’t help. It took three months of trying to get our money back before they offered a one-night refund and some points. The room was supposedly newly renovated, yet it was in terrible shape: the bathroom was disgusting and had a hole in the ceiling above the shower. The tiny pillows were the wrong size for the bed, and when we asked for more, none came until my husband went downstairs. All he got was an old feather pillow, which I couldn’t use because of my asthma. The advertised breakfast was the main reason I chose this hotel, but the next morning they said the chef had quit a few days earlier and offered only “breakfast bags.” Reviews going back months already mentioned the same problem. Worst hotel experience of my life. Don’t waste your time or money here.
