Homewood Cedar Rapids North

We used to like this hotel because it works well for our family, so it's disappointing that the last couple of visits haven't been good, especially this one. We moved rooms right away because the sink wouldn't drain, the lampshade was broken, and the closet door was damaged. During our four-day stay, breakfast ran out of many items and the selection was limited. One suite room blew very cold air while the other blew hot air. We told the front desk, but nothing was done. Both elevators shook quite a bit, and the one near us was eventually taken out of service. The hotel seems to be declining.

They have a social dinner on Wednesdays, which is pretty cool, and the breakfast is awesome. Great staff and clean rooms too. Definitely coming back. When it snows, you can do donuts in the parking lot across the street, lol.

I paid $200 for one night and couldn't get quarters for my change because the bills weren't dollar bills. I thought currency was currency. The woman at the front was very rude. The elevator felt unsafe and needs servicing, and the place could be really nice if maintenance and cleanliness got more attention.

We couldn't stay in the room at all. It smelled strongly of dog urine, and the beds looked filthy, with the sheets untucked and possibly unchanged. The room appeared not to have been properly cleaned in a long time. We went back to the desk right away to ask for a refund. We didn't want another room because the lobby, hallway, and room gave us the impression that cleanliness wasn't being taken seriously. The hallway carpet was filthy and badly buckled in the middle, and the lobby floor was extremely dirty. Even the front desk chair looked shredded, like a bear had attacked it. We had booked three nights for my family at Homewood Suites. The front desk woman said she couldn't help with the refund and told us to call the 1 800 number. We left and called. The representative said he had to contact the hotel, then put us on hold for twenty minutes and couldn't reach them. We ended up at the Holiday Inn Express across from Pizza Ranch. We never used or stayed in the room, but they still kept our money, so we filed a chargeback with our credit card company. The reservation was made directly through the hotel. This felt like an absentee-owned property with staff who didn't care. If cleanliness matters to you, I wouldn't recommend staying here. The other reviews saying it's filthy, dirty, and needs renovation were completely accurate. Calling it a Hilton is an insult to the Hilton name.
