Days Inn by Wyndham Centerville

The staff were excellent, and I had a good room during my Christmas stay. This is a great motel in Centerville TX, and at a little over $100 it was good value. I highly recommend it.

I was glad they had a downstairs room. The shampoo wasn’t very good, though. Also, whoever designed the bathroom, please make the door cover the whole room, not just the tub and toilet, so people can breathe a little. With my 15-year-old grandson there, I couldn’t change in the room, and the bathroom was so cramped I kept bumping my elbow or hand.

The room didn’t cost much, and at least I made it through the night without being murdered.

There aren’t many lodging options for a business trip to Centerville, so we stayed at Days, a national chain, while spending our days at Boggy State Park. The room was clean and had all the amenities. Breakfast was basically Fruit Loops or blueberry pancake batter, with coffee, milk, and apples. There are excellent food options around, but not at 6am. Front desk service was poor, and we had trouble over a service animal for my deaf colleague. He never even brought her back into the hotel; she slept in the truck. The way they treated him was worse than the issue with the animal. They spoke to him like a dim child, used basic words, yelled, and then refused to acknowledge him in conversation or contact because of THEIR discomfort with his inability to hear. He reads lips and can carry on a conversation like an Olympic medalist. He enjoys a private shower, too, after fishing with his equally charming dog and all of his employees. On checkout day, I called the front desk from Boggy State Park at 9:30am. I explained we were fishing on the lake and would get back very close to 11am, and asked for a noon checkout. The man said it would be fine, no problem. At 10:40, neither key worked. I went to the desk, got one key, and returned to shower and pack. At 11:20 someone knocked, presumably housekeeping, and I said we were dressing and needed a few more minutes. Then at 11:35 the front desk called our room, said I was holding things up, and asked when we were leaving. I asked whether noon checkout was no longer possible, and he hung up. We left before noon, quietly furious. Nobody in our group drinks or smokes, and we pick up after ourselves because we love enjoying our beautiful state parks. That’s why we held our team-building meetings in Centerville. We’re well-mannered, clean, educated, and employed. We had no problem paying and weren’t causing any environmental stress for the hotel. We won’t be back.
