I was soaked and starting to feel dangerously cold when I rolled into Chama on my motorcycle, riding from PA to CA after coming down from Colorado in heavy rain and falling temperatures. This was the first motel I saw, so I stopped. They initially said there were no rooms, but found one for me when I agreed to stay just one night. I got warm, dried most of my gear, and kept a close eye on the weather. I left in the middle of the night before the next storm came through. Part of the adventure, I guess, but the people who helped me here were the real heroes.

The little deck with fire pits was a nice touch, and the place is especially handy if you're taking the train since the station is across the street. It's quiet here, and the beds are extremely comfortable.

My wife and I stayed here last week, and it wasn't what we expected. The TV wasn't working right. When I asked the manager, she said the rain had knocked it down. We won't be going back.

My daughters were both disappointed enough to leave and drive home. My daughter had rented a room, and when I saw it on FaceTime, I couldn't believe the condition. There was sticky stuff on the comforters, stained carpet, and the TV didn't work at all. Hornets were living inside the window seal, too. It makes you wonder when the room was last cleaned or inspected.
