MainStay Suites Chambersburg

The renovation looks good, and for the price I don’t think you’ll find a better option in the area. The star rating seems about right. Staff are friendly, the desk is staffed around the clock, and there’s a full breakfast with coffee available all day. The hotel is in a busy area and serves extended-stay guests and pet owners, so the clientele is a mix. The gym and pool are still waiting to open.

The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the room was clean. No carpet in the room was a plus. There’s also a small kitchen that could be handy for simple meals, though we didn’t use it. I’d recommend the place.

The breakfast setup was slow, with the front desk also handling the food, and the second-floor ice machine didn’t work. We also found the same room problems in another room booked by a family member. I chose this Chambersburg property with my Choice Privileges rewards for a two-night wedding stay, and it was a mistake. The photos on the site matched the Corporate pictures, but the room didn’t live up to them. We had one hanger and no toaster, hairdryer, tissues, coffee pot, mini bath items, or wash basket. The lamp sat on the counter with its socket blocked by furniture, the kitchen lights stayed on, and the tub had no slip-resistant surface or hand rail. I brought the problems and the pictures to the front desk. I was told that not all Mainstay Suites have to meet Corporate Location standards, but staff did nothing and said nothing after I showed them the photos. I felt there was no respect for customer satisfaction. I won’t stay at another Mainstay Suite. Absolutely terrible. Shame on you Stephanie (GM) and Jay (Operation Dir.).

The rooms were the best part, with a nice luxury feel, though they seemed out of place beside the unkempt surroundings. Service was okay, but sometimes hard to find, and the gym wasn’t open. Breakfast was just okay too. Items ran out as the trip went on, and the cereal tasted a little stale. Perkins down the road serves a great breakfast, so I ate there most days. The laundry was a mess. One washer was broken, another took my money through a jammed change slot without registering it, and the last one didn’t drain. My clothes came out soaked, with water still in the machine, and took three high-heat cycles to almost dry. I spent nearly $15 on one load, including the money lost in the other machine. Since it’s an extended-stay place, housekeeping should check cabinets and drawers after guests leave. I found a trash can full of beer cans and KFC in the cabinet under the sink when I checked in.
