TownePlace Suites by Marriott Champaign Urbana/Campustown

The service was excellent, but the housekeeping problems made this a stay we just couldn’t enjoy. We booked with points, and I did wonder if they set aside “bad” rooms for those stays. In the first room, the tub hadn’t been cleaned before my husband showered, so he wiped it down and used it anyway. The internet didn’t work, the TV wouldn’t stream, outside noise was loud enough to vibrate the bed, and the thermostat kept letting the room get colder. I set the heat to 75, but the temperature fell to 67. They moved us to a quieter room where the internet and thermostat worked. But that shower had someone else’s hair in it, the conditioner bottle was empty, and there was no hot water. Housekeeping needs retraining, or to be replaced.

The location is incredible, but I was trapped in the broken hotel for almost two hours. Firefighters struggled to get me out because maintenance couldn’t be reached, and the staff didn’t acknowledge what had happened.

There were multiple strands of hair in the bathroom, and my room still hadn’t been cleaned more than 12 hours after I asked someone to come. The sheets hadn’t been changed when I arrived either. Worse, the bed had just been made, with a note from a previous guest left in the sheets. I went to the front desk again and told the attendant, who handed me sheets. I can’t blame her, since she was the only attendant in the whole hotel.

Legends next door throws horribly loud parties midweek, which is the one downside. Otherwise, this is a phenomenal facility, and both the staff and rooms are amazing.
