La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Houston East at Sheldon Rd

The pool was out of service when we arrived, which upset my daughters since we'd chosen this hotel for its indoor pool. Mrs. Amy called another hotel they run and asked if we could use their pool. That was really nice of her. The staff and Mrs. Amy were very kind, and our room was clean and comfortable. I'd highly recommend the hotel.

As soon as I entered the room, I saw large and small cockroaches crawling on the walls, floor, and bed. The woman at the desk was nice, but couldn't help much. I asked for a refund and was told management wouldn't allow one, and that I had to accept another room or give up my reservation. I called corporate. While I was on the phone, she called her manager, who argued that the front desk couldn't issue the refund. I had the manager on the desk phone in my left ear and corporate on hands-free Bluetooth in my right. After several minutes, the manager finally agreed to let the employee refund my reservation because of the cockroaches.

After driving for 12 hours, we got the rest we needed here. We usually avoid large cities because of safety concerns, but the secured parking and location just outside the busiest areas made us feel comfortable. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was a little tight but clean and comfortable, with a good bathroom. The shower pressure was weak, possibly because we were on the fourth floor, though it was still usable. We appreciated that the property welcomes pets, even though the room had a slight dog smell. Ordering dinner through DoorDash was easy, and the driver had no trouble finding us. We didn't use the hotel bar, but it looked impressive, and the view was decent. A convenient, safe, comfortable stop for travelers needing a break in Houston.

They charged at least $70 for an incidental fee without telling me first. It was because a towel had been used to wipe off washable face paint, even though the other towels in our room got the paint out. When I got frustrated, the front desk, especially the manager, basically said they wouldn't help because I seemed a little rude. Keep an eye on your bank account if you stay here.
