Residence Inn by Marriott Chapel Hill

I love this place for UNC events. It's dog friendly, has a pool, nice outdoor seating, and a continental breakfast that sets a high standard for a hotel. The gym is tiny, though. For May-June 2026, maybe longer, I'd avoid first floor rooms 105-130 wing. I'm not sure what happened at the property, but all those rooms smell like must or moth balls. My luggage and clothes came home smelling, and everything had to be washed. I could have changed rooms, but I wanted level 1, and I could tolerate the odor for 3 nights. My friend stayed on the 3rd floor and had no issue.

The included breakfast didn't offer much variety. There was just one cut melon, and kosher or Muslim options were very limited, basically a muffin, bagel, or oatmeal. The service staff were very nice and helpful. Rooms were clean, with furniture arranged nicely for the space, though some things need fixing: the sofa cushions were ripping at the stitches, and the towel hanger came off the wall when I hung a piece of clothing or a towel.

The kitchenette and nice-sized, clean rooms worked well for me, and the property is close to everything I needed. It's a lovely, quiet place backing onto protected land. The included breakfast was average for a chain hotel, nothing special but not bad, and the staff were pretty friendly. There's a nice pool, though we didn't use it in November.

The room was uncomfortable, and on an unusually warm day in March the A/C never cooled it down. It was also really loud all night and into the morning. Our TV didn't work at all. When I called the front desk, the person there said they'd spoken with the engineer, who couldn't do anything. They offered us a partial refund for the trouble, but after we checked out, management withdrew that promise. My family and I had a pretty unpleasant stay.
