Super 8 by Wyndham Charles City

We were on a hunting trip and weren't around the hotel much, so it was okay for what we needed. But the bed we slept in was horrible, hard as a rock, and the pillows were like small hospital pillows. Overall, fine, but that bed sucked.

On my first trip to Iowa, I found this hotel fantastic. The staff were courteous, friendly, and competent, and the location puts you near major highways, convenience stores, restaurants, and grocery stores. This will be my home away from home when I come back.😁

The rooms are clean and the TV works, unless clouds get in the way. Breakfast is okay if you're into self-serve waffles, bagels, and hard-boiled eggs from a vending machine. WiFi is mid at best, and without Verizon you're out of luck for cell service. The website says there's an exercise room, but there isn't one now. The exercise room sign is covered with scotch tape and white paper, and the space is more like a church nursery.

The location worked for the place we were visiting, but next time I'll stay farther away and pay the same for a better bed. I couldn't decide whether the floor or bed was more comfortable. The bed won, but only by one lump. Our first room smelled of mildew and regret, so we moved to another that smelled better for the rest of the stay.
