Days Inn by Wyndham Charleston Historic District

The bed was clean and comfortable, and the downtown location was hard to beat. When I booked, it was also the best deal I found so close to the center, so I’d probably come back. The room itself looked dated. My biggest issue was how dirty the floor seemed: after walking around, I stepped into the shower and watched a lot of dirt and debris wash off my feet. I couldn't tell whether it came from the carpet or bathroom floor. Front desk service varied, from very polite and helpful to a little curt.

The staff were great, really friendly, and check-in went smoothly. Downtown is right there, with everything within walking distance. Our room had a damp feel, and its door didn't lock properly. We were first assigned room 131, but after they learned we had an animal, they moved us to room 133. The pool area was dirty and could use cleaning. Parking cost $17 a night, which wasn't clear online, where it only said fees may apply. Nice location and people, but I'd keep a stay here to one or two nights.

Alvin, thanks for all your help. I've stayed here plenty of times over the years, and the staff have always been nice and helpful. The place is clean, safe, and bug-free, and the location is great. I've paid a fraction of what nearby hotels charge. They could spend a lot updating it, but I figure that would mean higher prices.

The room smelled strongly of dog urine, and I found cockroaches, mouse droppings on the counter, mud on the curtains, and missing baseboards. Pet-friendly rooms should still be cleaned properly after an animal has an accident. The room was beyond nasty, though I can live with a small, old-fashioned room. Staff were impersonal, slow to answer the phone, and short when they did speak with guests. Parking is $20 a night now, while nearby garages charge $18. Not worth the money, and I wouldn't recommend it unless there's nowhere else to stay.
