John Rutledge House Inn Charleston

We loved the afternoon tea, especially the tasty pastries served on china. Breakfast had loads of choices and could be brought whenever we wanted, either to the room, ballroom, or patio, also on china. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the French Quarter location made it easy to walk to historic sights and restaurants. Everything was just right. Go, you won’t be disappointed.

Having parking right on the property made it easy to walk to restaurants, bars, and historic places nearby, and the full time concierge was a nice extra. The rooms were beautiful, very clean, and comfortable, with a great mattress and individual AC and heat. Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of menu choices and flexible delivery times and locations, so mornings felt easy. Great value for the price. We’ll be back!

The rooms are comfortable and have enough modern amenities, even though the hotel itself is historic. My wife and I spent a long weekend here and would gladly return. It’s a beautiful place, with a great location and staff who were helpful and accommodating.

The garden was lovely and the house itself is pretty, but I’d hoped to see more of the house. Most of it seems to have become guest rooms, apart from the rather small ballroom where breakfast is served. Our Carriage house room felt like it could’ve been in any hotel once the door was shut. The steps into bed were ridiculously tall and unnecessary. The TV picture was blurry and didn’t fit the screen. I lowered my service rating because the concierge spoke so softly I couldn’t understand him, even though he speaks well.
