Hampton Inn Charleston-Downtown

The staff responded quickly, kept things lively, and lifted spirits while handling a heavy influx of guests. Way to go, Team Hampton! It was a very busy time of year, with sports teams running through the halls and filling the breakfast area. They were mostly respectful of other guests. Still, between that and a busy highway less than 50 feet from the building, we had a restless night. Parking was limited, and there was a foul "skunk" smell from someone smoking near the building. We hope not to encounter that again.

Rebecca was the standout. She went well beyond basic customer service and made us feel cared for and genuinely welcome. We arrived exhausted after a challenging all-night drive, and the front desk made getting us a room right away a priority. Our room was bright, immaculately clean, and had comfortable, restorative amenities. Every other team member we encountered was just as friendly and attentive, with the same personal, non-transactional approach. We'd enthusiastically recommend the hotel, and I'd gladly stay again.

The location is great, close to everything, which is why I booked this hotel. But from now on I'll stay at the other Hampton on southridge, even with the 20-minute drive. This place is run down and falling apart. The bathroom was hideous: the sink stayed clogged, the shower head looked like it had never been cleaned, there was what looked like a booger on the shower wall, and the vanity was literally chipping away. There was a used fork in the room from a previous guest, and I'm thankful my 18-month-old didn't find it. Black hairs were all over the sheets, and none of us are dark-haired. When I went to get my 12-year-old from the pool, I found three stoners standing at the outside pool door smoking green while he swam. Zero out of ten, do not recommend!

The room was clean and smelled nice when we arrived at 10:13 p.m., and the lighting was set so we didn't have to stumble around in the dark. The service was lovely. We have allergies, and Rebecca at the front desk helped explain what I could and couldn't have for breakfast. We also had dirty water marks on our car. When we asked to borrow some cleaner, they gave us spray and a nice microfiber cloth. They saved the day for both of us, because now I don't have to hear my husband complain about it all day. If past really bad stays have made you particular about where you stay, make this one of your safe choices.
