I liked the hotel's location and amenities, but several parts of my stay were disappointing. I arrived around 8:45 PM on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the Holiday Inn Charleston-Riverview, 301 Savannah Hwy, Charleston, SC US. The parking lot was dark, which made bringing in my luggage difficult. The right front entrance was out of service without a sign, and no one was at the front counter when I first arrived. The wallpaper near the counter was peeling. The woman who checked me in was kind and accommodating, though. The right elevator was also out of service, and the working elevator had damaged flooring. I was on the eleventh floor in room 1105. A Corona bottle was left next to the elevator, and the room looked outdated and unlike the online pictures. The lampshades beside the bed were stained, the bathroom drain came apart, and the lights were dim. Then, at about 12:51 AM on Sunday, February 15, 2026, an intoxicated guest started banging on my door. He kept at it until I opened the door and asked him to stop. My stay was not adequate, and I attached photos to show my concerns.

The rooms feel small because of the hotel’s design, and there’s only one EV charger in a very compact space. I switched rooms because of rust in the bathtub and a slow drain. If you want a better view, request a room closer to the elevator. For the price, I’ll probably choose a newer Holiday Inn next time.

The location is good, although getting in and out of the lot could be hectic when bridge traffic was heavy. Inside the room, the floors were filthy, the TV was burnt out and showed only blue tints, and the floor sloped near the window enough to feel unsafe. I told the staff about the floor and TV; they said they’d fix them, but nothing changed. We were barely in the room except to sleep and bathe, but those floors were really gross. The whole hotel needs a complete overhaul and renovation.

I like that the pricing was straightforward, with one rate and no prepayment, non-cancellable terms, resort fees, parking fees, or the other extras. The hotel is minutes from Charleston’s restaurants and bars, and they provide shuttle service. It’s an old place, and I stayed here back in the 70s. The room was smallish but nice, with a decent bed and a fabulous view that cost an extra $9. The sink and toilet shared one switch, so a late-night visit lit the whole room. The bar closes at 9 PM. Highway 17 runs on both sides, so it was a little noisy even on the 12th floor. I’ll stay again.

We stayed here while my husband was recovering from VA surgery, and the whole experience was awful. The VA didn’t cover the full stay, so we paid nearly $600 for three nights. Multiple times over the weekend, someone let their dog roam loose on the third floor. Whenever we opened our door to check the barking, the dog was there growling at us. If it had jumped on my husband, it could have torn out his stitches. This feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen. The room was also poorly cleaned: sticky, dirty floors, stubble on the bathroom counter, a dirty bathtub, and old food left in the refrigerator. The wall controls wouldn’t communicate with the unit, so we couldn’t set the room temperature properly. It was a horrible experience for the price, and the VA shouldn’t use this hotel for its patients.
