Checking in without contact was seamless. The apartments are comfortable and well furnished, and The Quarters on King sit in a perfect spot on King Street.

The constant noise was the hardest part for us. There was construction and sound from outside nearly 24/7, and the thin walls and ceilings made it easy to hear neighbors, almost like they were doing aerobics. It made getting a good night’s sleep difficult, even though we expected some city noise with such a central location. There were maintenance issues as well. A shower had a patch of missing tile with loose tiles nearby, both bathroom sinks clogged after running briefly, and some furniture was worn and stained. Parking was in an open lot off George St., about two blocks away. Leaving the car there felt a bit unnerving, though it’s an okay part of town. On the plus side, the apartment suites are beautiful, the staff were responsive, and the location is excellent. We appreciated having two bedrooms for a reasonable price, plus lovely wood floors, rustic brick, and a fully equipped kitchen. With some refreshing, this could be a great place to stay in Charleston.

The room felt more like an apartment, and I could seriously imagine living there. I’ve spent plenty of time in hotel rooms for work, so I really appreciated the full kitchen and the layout. It’s right on the main drag, within walking distance of just about everything downtown Charleston offers. On our first visit to the city, the accommodations couldn’t have made me happier. We arrived early, and the staff went out of their way to get the room ready ASAP. I was stunned when we walked in. Definitely planning to stay again, 10/10.

We barely needed the car after arrival because everything historic Charleston offers was easy to reach on foot from King. Our two-bedroom suite had far more space than expected, with a large open living area, kitchen, and two comfortable bedrooms, each with an en suite bath. It was clean and updated, and the stay was otherwise great. The one hiccup was check-in communication. The website described contactless check-in, but I never got instructions to enter the room. I called a day before arriving and left my name, phone number, and hotel itinerary number, but no one called back before we got there. Fortunately, someone was in the real estate office and helped us. I eventually got a return call on day two.

The suite was okay, with a cool concept and a good location. Desk staff were nice, and the location helped make the stay better than the problems did. Check-in was a mess. I received an access code for suite 301, but when my family and I entered, another party was already inside. They were understanding, but after driving half a day to show my in-laws a good time, I was annoyed. Someone stayed in the office an hour past closing and gave us another code. They said I was in 302, though my email confirmation said 301. I was told I was in the wrong place, with no apology. I complained through the third-party booking site, and then someone from the hotel called to apologize. The rooms looked nice but weren’t well maintained, with stains and dents. I saw a cockroach, and didn’t mention it until now because I didn’t want my in-laws disgusted by where we were staying. We also had to do the dishes despite not getting daily service. I never had a good shower: a leak sent water around the rainfall head and back down onto me as a constant cold stream, which showed as drops by the time I took a photo. I’d give it one or two stars if not for the location.
