Embassy Suites by Hilton Charlotte Uptown

After a long travel day, we were exhausted when American Airlines delayed our flight and AA arranged for us to stay at Embassy Suites Uptown. Ms. Monique at the front desk was so warm and helpful. She made the short stay go smoothly and even lent us her own phone charger. That kindness made a real difference. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality!

It’s just a 7 min walk to Spectrum Center, so the location is perfect if you’re going to an event there. I really enjoyed the evening reception, and both dinner and breakfast were good. Everything about my stay was 10 out of 10. It was extremely pleasant, and I’ll definitely return.

There was enough room for six boys under ten and three adults, but the beds were very uncomfortable and the room had no ventilation. After a shower, the hot air just sits there, which is odd. If comfort, quiet, and a peaceful stay matter to you, you may want to look elsewhere. We made the mistake of going to breakfast around 8:30 a.m. It was like a zoo, with people crowding through a line that didn’t seem to exist. The waffle makers were never turned on, though the kids had gotten excited about them. They should’ve put them away if they couldn’t be used that day. The plugs were right there, and people were trying to plug them in and figure out how to turn them on. It was New Year’s Eve day, and I expected the hotel to have a big night ahead. With a holiday, a Hornets game, and several other activities around town, they should have been properly stocked and staffed.

The breakfast buffet layout caused a huge bottleneck. It’s a narrow space with one line for the buffet, and guests waiting for omelettes at the far end blocked everyone who only wanted eggs, bacon, or toast from the self-serve bar near the entrance. The line stretched through the dining room. One morning we left because it was so long, so we missed the breakfast included in our room charge and had to pay at a nearby restaurant. Moving the omelette bar elsewhere in the dining room would help. If you’re counting on the free breakfast, bring something to read and be patient. The rest of the stay was good. Ashley at check-in and Ron at checkout were incredibly professional and friendly. Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, and the location is close to the NASCAR museum, Spectrum Center, and good restaurants. I would’ve given five stars if not for the buffet problem.
