The $100 deposit was taken after checkout because they claimed my husband and I had tampered with the smoke alarm and left cigarette ashes. That's a lie. We don't smoke, and we're too short to reach the alarm. I left the room clean, even removing the linens. I took photos, though not of the smoke detector, since I hadn't realized it had been tampered with. I thought its red light just meant it needed batteries and left it alone. It feels like they kept my deposit to pay for repairs to something that was already broken. Check that everything is in order when you enter, or they may blame you for damage from their own neglect. I used to be a DIAMOND CHOICE MEMBER, though I haven't traveled much this year. The front desk staff had been kind until checkout, and there are good employees, but the management took advantage of customers who had stayed there before without any problems. Their accusation was degrading and unjust, so I contacted corporate right away. I was surprised the place was associated with the Northlake area, since it's actually off Sunset Rd and not in the best location. The Starbucks out front gives a different impression, and the rooms look almost like the photos.
