Sonesta Simply Suites Charlotte University

The fragrance pumped through the place smelled like smoke, and it wasn't inviting. The bathroom floor was nasty and looked like it hadn't been scrubbed in years. The furniture and carpet were filthy too. I won't stay somewhere this dirty again.

The room was fairly clean and okay, but the shared areas were stained and poorly kept. The stairwell smelled like someone had dumped a 55-gallon drum of Febreze in it. My wife was simply afraid to stay once we arrived late. Signs warning us not to leave valuables in the car were the first hint we'd made a bad choice. I'm not sure why two cars were idling in the lot with their drivers watching us carry everything inside. If you're after a low-cost flophouse, this may suit you. Otherwise, I'd avoid it.

I prepaid through Booking, but the photos did not match what we found. It felt more like a motel, with the same kind of people and everything looking busted up. The front door was broken, and the place reeked of pot. The lobby smelled like someone was growing it there, probably because the manager was outside smoking pot. I called to cancel, but they denied the request and kept my money. Looking at the property, I wasn't surprised they wouldn't refund it. Stay far away unless you like run-down, sketchy motels. For the same price, my advice is to go to "staybridge suites" for much better quality. You'll thank me a thousand times over.

The staff were kind and extremely helpful, and the front desk and rooms had been cleaned with care. The only small problem was with the bathroom pipes when I tried the hot water. I called maintenance, and they were kind and professional too. They fixed it right away.
